The leader of the militant Mapuche group RAM, Facundo Jones Huala, will be extradited to Chile following a federal court decision on Monday in the southern city of Bariloche.
Federal judge Gustavo Villanueva accepted Chile’s extradition request against 31-year-old Jones Huala, prompting an outbreak of violence. His decision is pending a final appeals process, which the Mapuche leader's legal team confirmed they will pursue.
Protesters threw rocks at Border Patrol and Airport Security Police and damaged vehicles and shop windows, prosecutor Guillermo Lista said.
Fifteen people were detained including eight men, seven women and a 14-year-old.
